Our property seems to produce gophers like we produce edibles! We heard that gophers don’t like garlic, so last October we planted garlic in a circle within the base of a few trees… Every four inches, about two feet from the trunk of a plum and a fig tree. It is now May and only about a month from harvesting our garlic! The jury is still out, but it seems to be working! How do we know? We went to plant onions (another allium that are said to be distasteful to gophers) in a circle around the garlic that was around our trees and found a trench built by gophers already there! It seems that the gophers DID avoid the garlic – to the point of tunneling around it! We planted the onions in the gopher trench and they never pulled them down – and the trees are fluorishing!
